Worship Devotional - "Worship Based on the Word"

Sep 23, 2025

Key Scripture: "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord." - Colossians 3:16

Reflection Paul connects two vital elements: being filled with God's Word and being filled with song. When Christ's Word dwells in you richly - abundantly, lavishly, overflowing - it will influence you to sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. But notice the dual purpose: you sing to the Lord, but you also teach and admonish one another through your songs.

This reveals why we need songs that are theologically sound. When music is anointed and carries God's truth, it becomes a powerful tool for building faith and reinforcing doctrine. God is restoring sound biblical doctrine to the church through praise. What you sing shapes what you believe, and what you believe determines how you live.

Key Scripture “Whoever offers praise glorifies Me.” — Psalm 50:23 Reflection The Hebrew word “Todah” describes thanksgiving offered before the answer appears. It is praise rooted in faith rather than visible evidence. Anyone can thank God after breakthrough arrives. But mature worshipers learn to thank Him while still waiting.
