Getting to know God better

Oct 21, 2026

SCRIPTURE

“Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16, KJV)

“And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us.” (1 John 5:14, KJV)

CONTENT

Our prayer life would be different if we truly understood what prayer is. Prayer is the greatest privilege we have, because it is a meeting with God himself.

Who is in the meeting?

  • God the Father chairs it. He presides over every prayer, with authority, wisdom and a Father’s heart.
  • Jesus witnesses it. He stands as our advocate and confirms that we have the right to be in the room.
  • The Holy Spirit actions it. He helps us pray, carries our prayers before the Father and brings God’s purposes to pass.

Heaven’s boardroom is always open. There is no closing time and no waiting list. The participants are always present, because God is never late or distracted. Everything on the agenda is considered, so no concern is too small or too big to bring.

Make sure your agenda lines up with God’s Word. The Bible shows us what pleases God and what he has promised. When our requests agree with his Word, we pray with confidence, knowing we are asking according to his will.

Our approach to prayer matters. The members of this board have the answers to everything on the agenda. They know what we need before we ask, and they hold the solutions we are searching for. That is why we come with honour and reverence, not casually or carelessly. Honouring them is not about fear. It is about recognising who we are speaking to and trusting that they have the answers.

REFLECTION

  1. Do I treat prayer as a privilege or as a duty to tick off?
  2. When I pray, am I aware of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit in the room?
  3. Is my “agenda” shaped by God’s Word, or only by my own wants and worries?
  4. What changes do I need to make in how I approach prayer, so that it reflects honour and expectation?
  5. What is one item on my agenda that I have been carrying alone and need to bring to the boardroom today?

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank you for the privilege of coming into your presence. Thank you that your door is always open and that you are always there to meet with me.

Jesus, thank you for standing as my witness and for opening the way to the Father.

Holy Spirit, thank you for helping me pray and for working out in my life what I bring before God.

Lord, forgive me for the times I have rushed into prayer without honour or neglected it altogether. Teach me to approach you with reverence and confidence. Help me line up my requests with your Word, so that my prayers reflect your heart. I place every concern on the agenda today, trusting that you have the answers to all of them.

Draw me closer, and help me to know you better each day.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Your body belongs to the Lord
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 6:13 “Now the body is not for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.” This verse contains a remarkable truth: not only does your body belong to the Lord, but the Lord is for your body. God is not indifferent toward your physical wellbeing. He cares about your health, strength, and wholeness. Your body is the temporary dwelling place where your s...
Don't forget God's benefits
Scripture: Psalm 103:2 “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits.” One of the greatest enemies of gratitude is forgetfulness. The human mind naturally remembers pain more easily than faithfulness. Disappointments linger. Failures replay themselves. Fears amplify future uncertainty. This is why David intentionally commands his soul: “Forget not.” Gratitude often begins with rem...
Health of your soul (mind)
Scripture: 3 John 1:2 (AMPC) “Beloved, I pray that in every way you may succeed and prosper and be in good health [physically], just as [I know] your soul prospers [spiritually].” Scripture reveals a profound connection between the soul and the body. Your inner world does not remain hidden. Anxiety, chronic stress, unresolved grief, and fear eventually affect physical wellbeing. Modern science ...
