Worship Devotional - "The Spirit Who Hovers"

May 06, 2026

Key Scripture: "The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters." - Genesis 1:2

Reflection

The earth was without form and void—a waste place, empty, desolate, worthless, chaotic, and disorderly. But the Holy Spirit was present at creation, hovering over the face of the waters. God spoke, and creation was formed out of nothing by the power of the Holy Spirit.

This same Holy Spirit hovers over your life today. When we speak God's Word, the Holy Spirit is hovering over, ready to perform the miraculous. The power of the Holy Spirit brings resurrection life to everything that is dead. His presence brings life into every situation. Without the Spirit's presence, we have a lifeless existence.

The Holy Spirit was also present when the church was started at Pentecost. His creative power started the church, and His presence continues to sustain it. Without the creative presence of the Holy Spirit, the church is void—a waste place, desolate and empty. It is not people alone who make up the church but the Holy Spirit moving in and through people of faith to do the miraculous.

The church has no purpose without the Holy Spirit hovering over it. If He is not present, we might as well be absent. His presence is necessary to bring the abundant supernatural life that Jesus talked about.

Today's Challenge

As you prepare to worship today, invite the Holy Spirit to hover over your situation. Speak God's Word and trust that the same creative power present at creation is ready to bring life to your worship and your circumstances.

Prayer

Holy Spirit, I recognize that You are the creative, life-giving presence of God. Hover over my life today as You hovered over the waters at creation. Bring form to what is formless, life to what is dead, and order to what is chaotic. Help me worship in Your power. Amen.

Worship that Ministers to the Lord -Zamar
Key Scripture “Sing praises to the Lord with the harp.” — Psalm 98:5 Reflection The Hebrew word “Zamar” refers to making music unto the Lord with instruments and singing. It carries the idea of worship that is skillful, intentional, and focused on ministering to God. Music has always carried spiritual significance throughout Scripture. David understood the power of worship music deeply. When...
Breakthrough Praise -Todah
Key Scripture “Whoever offers praise glorifies Me.” — Psalm 50:23 Reflection The Hebrew word “Todah” describes thanksgiving offered before the answer appears. It is praise rooted in faith rather than visible evidence. Anyone can thank God after breakthrough arrives. But mature worshipers learn to thank Him while still waiting. Todah praise declares confidence in God’s faithfulness even when ...
