Worship Devotionals - "True Worshipers"
Key Scripture: "But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth." - John 4:23
Reflection
The word "true" in the Greek is "alethinos" and means true in the sense of being real, genuine, ideal—that which has not only the name and resemblance but the real nature corresponding to the name. As much as God is true and genuine in all His ways, so should His worshipers be in their worship.
The word is also related to the Greek word "alethes," which means unconcealed or manifest. A true worshiper has nothing to hide. He is true to God in every way and does not fake any area of his life to satisfy religious standards. He is the real thing, the genuine article.
The manifestation of true worship is not something that is hidden in a Christian's life. It is made manifest as a lifestyle for the world to see that we unashamedly love and worship Him. God is looking for those who worship sincerely. That is true worship.
It is worshipers who worship in spirit and truth that the Father seeks. It is not the act of worship but the life that carries out the act that is important to God. It is sobering to realize that God knows how much of our lives constitute worship. He wants us to hold nothing back when it comes to worshiping Him.
Today's Challenge
Examine your worship for authenticity. Are you the genuine article—worshiping with nothing to hide? Ask God to reveal any area where your worship has become performance rather than reality.
Prayer
Father, I want to be a true worshiper—real, genuine, with nothing to hide. Search my heart and reveal any pretense or religious performance. I want my worship to be authentic, the real expression of a real relationship with You. Amen.
