Worship Devotional - "Worship in the Spirit"
Key Scripture: "For we are the circumcision, who worship God in the Spirit, rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh." - Philippians 3:3
Reflection
Scripture instructs us to worship God in spirit and truth and have no confidence in the flesh. The Amplified Bible says we worship God "in spirit and by the Spirit of God." The Holy Spirit leads us and guides us in worship because only He knows what worship is required by the Father and Son.
What we need is a keen awareness, a continual consciousness of the Holy Spirit, and a yieldedness to His promptings in our lives. This is the first step to worship in Spirit. Each worship experience must be guided by Him, because the way we worshiped yesterday may not be the way in which the Holy Spirit will guide us today.
The Holy Spirit is the one who is with us, leading and guiding us. He is the one who is speaking to us, helping and comforting us, but also helping us to worship. It is possible to be born again and Spirit-filled yet not aware of His presence in our lives. This will hinder our worship.
If we do not know the Holy Spirit who lives in us, how can we worship the Father who lives in heaven? Our relationship with the indwelling Spirit is the key to authentic, powerful worship.
Today's Challenge
Before you worship today, pause and become aware of the Holy Spirit within you. Ask Him to lead your worship. Be sensitive to His promptings—He may guide you differently than He did yesterday.
Prayer
Holy Spirit, I acknowledge Your presence within me. Lead me in worship today. I yield to Your promptings and surrender my own ideas about how worship should look. Show me what the Father desires, and help me worship in spirit and truth. Amen.
