Worship Devotional - "Setting the Lord Before Me"

Dec 15, 2025

Key Scripture: "I have set the Lord always before me; because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved." - Psalm 16:8

Reflection

David did not want God to leave him at any time. He knew he needed to take action on a repeated basis—a lifestyle—to make this happen. He set the Lord before him, meaning that he would not allow God to be out of his thoughts or actions.

Worship is the inclusion of God in everything in our lives. It is allowing God to be a decision-maker in all that we do and a witness in all that we say. It's welcoming Him into every aspect of our lives, personal and public. Someone used the expression "worship is up close and personal," and it truly is.

When God occupies our thoughts, worship will continually flow from our hearts and lips. Developing a continual consciousness of God keeps us in the spirit realm of His presence. When we worship, we are connected to God's realm, and when we develop a lifestyle of worship, we keep ourselves connected.

Worship is so practical. It is welcoming God into every decision, every conversation, every challenge, and every celebration. This is the life David modeled—a man after God's own heart who refused to go anywhere without God's presence.

Today's Challenge

Practice "setting the Lord before you" today by consciously inviting God into three specific situations: a decision you need to make, a conversation you'll have, and a challenge you're facing.

Prayer

Lord, like David, I choose to set You always before me. I invite You into my thoughts, my decisions, my conversations, and my challenges. Be at my right hand so that I shall not be moved. Help me develop a lifestyle where You are never far from my consciousness. Amen.

Worship Devotional - A Lifestyle of Praise
Key Scripture: "Seven times a day I praise You, because of Your righteous judgments." - Psalm 119:164   Reflection The psalmist praised God seven times a day—and notice the reason: "because of Your righteous judgments." He was reading and meditating on God's Word throughout the day, and each encounter produced praise. He had developed a lifestyle of praise. Seven times a day suggests that prais...
Worship Devotional - God's Word Is My Song
Key Scripture: "Your statutes have been my songs in the house of my pilgrimage." - Psalm 119:54   Reflection The psalmist declares that God's statutes—His Word—have been his songs throughout his journey through life. This reveals something profound: the source of all Christian singing must be God's Word. If the lyrics don't support biblical truth, the songs do not support true praise. We live i...
Worship Devotional - "Rejoicing in His Testimonies"
Key Scripture: "I have rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies, as much as in all riches." - Psalm 119:14   Reflection The psalmist makes an extraordinary comparison: he rejoiced in God's testimonies as much as in all riches. Think about that. The Word of God brought him the same level of joy that winning the lottery would bring most people—perhaps even more. Rejoicing and praise are deeply con...
