Worship Devotional - "A Psalm to Remember: Blessing the Lord"

Nov 25, 2025

Key Scripture: "Bless the LORD, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits." - Psalm 103:1-2

Reflection Psalm 103 is a classic example of the benefits God offers when you bless Him with remembrance and thanksgiving. David begins by commanding his own soul to bless the Lord - this is intentional, not accidental worship. He's making a deliberate choice to remember and give thanks.

Notice the progression: first, bless the Lord with everything within you. Second, forget not His benefits. Then David lists specific benefits: forgiveness of all iniquities, healing of all diseases, redemption from destruction, crowning with loving kindness and tender mercies, satisfaction with good things, and renewal of youth like the eagle's.

The benefits of God are promised to those who bless Him. Interestingly, God forgives then heals - in that order. When the cause (iniquity) is forgiven, the effect (sickness) is healed. Generally speaking, sin must be forgiven before sickness can be removed, though God's mercy is so great that He often heals those who don't even know Him yet.

David understood that blessing God and remembering His benefits weren't optional activities for when you felt spiritual - they were essential practices for experiencing God's fullness. When you intentionally remember and give thanks, you position yourself to receive even more from His hand.

Today's Challenge Read Psalm 103 in its entirety. As you read each benefit mentioned, pause to thank God specifically for how that benefit has manifested in your life.

Prayer I bless You, Lord, with all that is within me! I bless Your holy name and remember all Your benefits. Thank You for forgiveness, healing, redemption, and renewal. I will not forget Your goodness! Amen.

Worship Devotional - A Lifestyle of Praise
Key Scripture: "Seven times a day I praise You, because of Your righteous judgments." - Psalm 119:164   Reflection The psalmist praised God seven times a day—and notice the reason: "because of Your righteous judgments." He was reading and meditating on God's Word throughout the day, and each encounter produced praise. He had developed a lifestyle of praise. Seven times a day suggests that prais...
Worship Devotional - God's Word Is My Song
Key Scripture: "Your statutes have been my songs in the house of my pilgrimage." - Psalm 119:54   Reflection The psalmist declares that God's statutes—His Word—have been his songs throughout his journey through life. This reveals something profound: the source of all Christian singing must be God's Word. If the lyrics don't support biblical truth, the songs do not support true praise. We live i...
Worship Devotional - "Rejoicing in His Testimonies"
Key Scripture: "I have rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies, as much as in all riches." - Psalm 119:14   Reflection The psalmist makes an extraordinary comparison: he rejoiced in God's testimonies as much as in all riches. Think about that. The Word of God brought him the same level of joy that winning the lottery would bring most people—perhaps even more. Rejoicing and praise are deeply con...
